Asian Development Bank – Japan Scholarship Program

ADB is a multilateral development finance institution, established in 1966, dedicated to reducing poverty in Asia and the Pacific. ADB offers opportunities to talented individuals basically from its developing member countries to pursue postgraduate studies through a Scholarship Program which commenced in 1988 with funding from the Government of Japan.

Scholarships, for periods of one to two years, are awarded at 20 well-known institutions in the region. Studies in economics, management, science and technology and other development-related fields are available.

Persons interested in the Scholarship Program should complete the information sheet found in this brochure and send it to the institution where they would like to study.

The Scholarship

Each scholarship covers tuition, subsistence and housing allowances, book allowance, medical insurance, and travel expenses. For scholars engaged in research, a thesis/research allowance is provided to assist in fieldwork and thesis preparation. In special circumstances, where additional training is deemed necessary, expenditures incurred to improve language proficiency and computer literacy may be covered under the scholarship.

Who is eligible

If you are a citizen of a developing member country of ADB who has been admitted to an approved postgraduate course in any participating academic institutions, you may be considered for a scholarship. The Program especially welcomes women applicants and individuals who have limited financial access to higher studies. Candidates should have at least two years of full-time professional working experience and be physically fit. Candidates should not be more than 35 years old at the time of application. Upon completion of the study, you are expected to return to your home country.

Executive Directors, Alternate Directors, management and staff of ADB, consultants, and relatives of the aforementioned are not eligible for the Scholarships. Staff of participating academic institutions are not eligible to apply for the Scholarships.
